Five of the best hatchbacks for 2019
As much as we love to keep up to date on the world of Supercars, we also like to keep an eye on what’s new to the market for car drivers in general. This week we’ve decided to look at the good old hatchback and see what’s new for 2019.
Hatchbacks have taken a bit of a backseat in recent times with the introduction of SUVs and crossovers to the market, but we shouldn’t underestimate the power of the hatchback. We ask a lot of this faithful model as it needs to deliver on all manner of things such as space, ease of parking, reliability, interior and boot space, and of course low running costs.
Here we look at 5 of the best on the market for 2019.
The Ford Focus has been around for several generations and has over time become a fantastic car. Ford have kept their focus (pardon the pun) on delivering a great driving experience with sharp handling and excellent body control. If you’re a driver that likes to drive, you won’t be disappointed with a Ford Focus. As well as a great drive, Ford have increased the interior space through using a a longer wheel base which has significantly improved the cabin space as well as giving ample room in the boot. There are plenty of models and options for you to choose from but if you can afford to, opt for one of the higher specs, you’ll be impressed at just how much you get for your money.
It may not be the best hatchback for handling but what it lacks in this area it certainly makes up for in others such as high tech equipment. Even though previous versions of the A-Class have had huge success, Mercedes decided to go back to the drawing board with this year’s model and have revised the platform, interior, engine and technical details. Mercedes claim the improvements have made the car much more aerodynamic hence reducing the kerb weight and subsequent running costs. But the price tag reflects the improvements and basic models start at around about £23k. Your local Mercedes Dealership will be able to keep you informed of any offers and deals to try and get you a great deal.
Love it or hate it, the Vauxhall Astra is another hatchback that’s been around for many generations. However, this year, if you’re looking for a hatchback you really should give this version serious consideration. Vastly improved the fresh model has great style, ample space, low running costs and great onboard technology. It seems Vauxhall have finally delivered a car that not looks great but delivers a great drive as well. You’ll find a comprehensive range of models to choose from all of which offer a comfortable ride with great handling.
Peugeot designed the 308 to take on the mights of the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus. It delivers in all areas and was even awarded European Car of the Year in 2014 – http://www.caroftheyear.org/winners/2014/index.php. One of the key benefits for this car is that it is also built on the same design as the Citroen C4 Space Tourer hence why it is a lot lighter than its previous versions and can deliver 80.7mpg. So not only will it deliver on low running costs, it looks great, has a superior interior and is great to handle.
You absolutely know what you get with a VW Golf and is maybe the jewel in the crown in the hatchback arena. Again, the model has been around for a number of years, but Volkswagen have tweaked the areas where improvement was needed and have left alone the bits that were performing well. There are numerous models available all of which offer something slightly different but are fundamentally the same. Although the design has mainly remained the same, the car has been improved with technology upgrades and remains to be one of the classiest, sleek, solid hatchbacks in today’s market.
